Aruba Bound

I just wrapped up an enormously big project, or wrapped up the bulk of it, and Monday night I am getting on a plane to go to my house in Aruba.

For the month of August.

Aruba beach and ocean with umbrellas

Scott and I had discussed a trip, for approximately how long we’d stay, and he was like, Babe just do whatever you want.

Whatever I want? Okay.

Surprise, family, we’re going to Aruba for a month.

Since he and I can both work from anywhere with phones, an internet connection, computer, camera, and I need a few extra things like mixing bowls and some sugar, I figured what the heck and booked the trip.

Plus, this is the last month of summer vacation with our ‘baby’ who is starting first grade in September. Sniff. So we’re taking a long family vacation and Skylar’s been talking nonstop about it nonstop since I spilled the beans. She’s so excited to see our neighbors there, her teddy bears in her room there, and her friends there.

Aruba ocean and ships

Yes, I will be blogging daily.

In fact, I may be churning out more recipes.

There is only so much equator sun anyone can handle before you have to step out of the sun, and into the kitchen.

The last time we were in Aruba

I made everything from

White Chocolate Peanut, Pretzel, & Chocolate Chip Fudge

to Pineapple Banana & Coconut Cream Smoothies

Pineapple Banana & Coconut Cream Smoothies

to White Chocolate Vanilla Peanut Butter Puppy Chow

to Creamy Cookie Butter White Chocolate Smoothies

There will be no shortage of smoothie-making and sweet and no-bake recipes coming.

For some reason I crave white chocolate when I’m there, so if you like white chocolate, you’ll probably be in luck.

This is our running and walking path.

Aruba path and palm trees

We need it after said baking projects.

Aruba path overlooking ocean

There will be no shortage of these types of pictures in the next month.

Flowers and palm trees.

White flowers on landscape

I hope you can handle a month of it.

Blue Sky with Palm tree

And tons of blue sky + blue water pictures.

They make me happy, relaxed, calm, tranquil, and I could stare at blue sky and water forever.

Aruba is my happy place.

It’s not called One Happy Island for nothing.

White sand overlooking water

Do you have any vacations planned or have you done any trips or little getaways this summer?

Not only am I excited and grateful to be going to my happy place, but I am so excited to be able to spend ample time each day with my family without much on our agenda. I’ll let you know if I’m still cum-ba-yah’ing over all that family togetherness after being awake 36 hours on the redeye tonight. Wish me luck!

  1. Have a safe trip and I know you’ll have a wonderful time! I have been to Curaçao but not Aruba or Bonaire. I love reading about your time there–makes me want to go some day and check it out. More white chocolate recipes?!?! Bring it on!!

    1. You would love it – much more to do than those two islands, well, unless you’re a scuba diver than nothing beats Bonaire!

  2. Just had a getaway to Vegas, and will be camping in August. I love summer holidays :-) I am hoping to go to Mexico in March for a wedding, but still need to see if I can get the days off. With teaching, it is next to impossible to do any trips that aren’t in the summer, over Christmas or Easter.

    1. I am so excited to be going down there in the ‘off season’ – not xmas or easter/spring break for the reasons you mentioned!

  3. Averie, what a great news! I am so happy for you! Yes, I can handle a whole month of palm trees, and sun, and treats, I can handle a whole year of it! And then more after that! :)
    Have fun with family!
I baked something again (or dear, I can’t believe I am saying it!), and told my “sweet” story :)
We have no vacations this year, just business. My husband needs to find a job by end of this year so he can start working on his license. Then we have to get ready to move. Nothing exciting… :)

  4. Sounds like a plan, mama! You should mail yourself a package of cooking supplies; might be easier than bringing them on the plane.

I can’t wait for our next vacation. It’s badly needed!

    1. lol and I agree – between the cost to ship there or the cost of overweight baggage or the cost of overpriced and understocked local island kitchen supplies – it’s practically a wash. But over the past 10 years, I’ve built up a decent stash…I have new measuring cups and a 8×8 and 9×9 pan in my suitcase this trip :)

  5. You deserve every minute of this trip! I wish I were going to be there.

I’ve got a trip to Vancouver, BC in two weeks. Part work, part fun, so I can’t wait!! Not quite the tropics, but it is supposed to be the best time of year to go there. I’m looking forward to time out of the midwest.

    1. And your trip sounds awesome! have heard GREAT things about vancouver but have never been – that is your kinda place!

  6. I’m leaving for Aruba on Friday the 3rd! We need to meet up! I will be there until Thursday the 9th. Even if we don’t meet up I hope you have a blast…although I really hope we do :)

  7. Aaaaaaaand you know I’m officially jealous :-) We didn’t make it to the tropics this year for vacation. Nantucket is wonderful and beautiful…but there’s just something about the turquoise waters of the Carribbean that get to me!! Y’all are going to have a ball!

    1. your trip looked great and that post you wrote – you just cannot compare a pre/post baby vacation – especially at lila’s age – you’ll get there again soon :)

  8. What an amazing vacation! So jealous of a full month of beach vacation. Can’t wait to see the stunning pictures, and great white chocolate recipes!

  9. Totally jealous. It always looks absolutely beautiful in your pictures. I bet it looks even more amazing in person! I have absolutely no vacation plans for this year, which is a bummer. But staycations can be fun too!

  10. Not jealous at ALL you’re head to ARUBA. AR.UB.A.

We’re headed to NC in a couple of weeks! Beach time. :)

  11. Just WOW. I’m completely jealous. We honeymooned in Aruba and would love to go back but it’s gotten so expensive since we were last there. Genius to rent domestic and own abroad.

    1. that is my exact logic – rent here, own there. It was a great (semi-lucky) decision that worked out well…wish all of my real estate endeavors did :) But yes, it’s so expensive there now compared to even 10 years ago!
