Red sprinkles and candy canes mean Santa is on his way.
And I know Santa will have no problemย polishing off a few of these.
We’ve all had Peanut Butter Blossoms and these cookies are the holiday version.
The cookies are soft, chewy, covered in red sprinkles and there’s a Candy Cane Hershey Kiss in the center. Use your favorite colored sprinkles and Kisses. There are so many varieties of both.
I love my recipe for Soft Sugar Cookies, but I took a shortcut and used Betty Crocker Sugar Cookieย Cookie Mix.ย Betty is your go-to for creating simple, yet memorable, holiday moments with your family.
As much as I love baking totally from scratch, the Betty Crocker Cookie Mix is a greatย shortcut especially when you’re making cookies with kids.ย Justย combine the mix with an egg, a stick of butter, and stir together by hand. So easy.
BettyCrocker.com is your one-stop-shop for holiday inspiration and guidance. There are cookie ideas you can bake with your kids and recipes you can make in advance. Bettyโs got you covered this holiday season.
I highly recommend chilling the dough before baking it and even though the packaging doesn’t indicate to, chilled dough is key for thicker cookies that aren’t as prone to spreading. I had much better results usingย chilled dough.
I brought these to a holiday party and everyone’s eyes lit up when they saw the plate of cookies.
I brought home a clean plate without so much as one leftover cookie.

Candy Cane Blossom Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- one pouch, 1 lb 1.5 oz Betty Crockerโข Sugar Cookie Cookie Mix
- ยฝ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- red sprinkles or sanding sugar, for decorating (or use your favorites)
- 16 Candy Cane Hersheyโs Kisses, unwrapped (or use your favorite version)
Instructions
- To a large bowl, add the cookie mix, butter, egg, and stir to combine.
- Using a two tablespoon cookie scoop, or your hands, form approximately 16 equal-sized mounds of dough.
- Sprinkle on or dredge each mound of dough through sprinkles.
- Place mounds on a large plate or tray, cover with plasticwrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight. Do not bake with unchilled dough because cookies will bake thinner, flatter, and be more prone to spreading and this dough is already prone to spreading.
- Preheat oven to 350F, line a baking sheet with aย Silpatย or spray with cooking spray. Place dough mounds on baking sheet, spaced at least 2 inches apart (do not bake more than 8 cookies per sheet because these cookies spread)ย and bake for about 10 to 11 minutes (if your cookies are smaller, bake less; and keep a watchful eye on them since ovens very dramatically), or until edges have set and tops are just set, even if slightly undercooked, pale, and glossy in the center; donโt overbake. Cookies firm up as they cool.
- Immediately after removing cookies from oven, add 1 Hersheyโs Kiss to the center of each cookie, pressing it down lightly.ย Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for about 15 minutes before removing. Iย let them cool on the baking sheet and donโt use a rack.ย Cookies will keep airtight at cool room temperature for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

I plan to make these for my daughter’s school holiday party! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I do have a question…You say to ‘mound’ the dough, do you not roll them into balls? It probably wouldn’t be a big deal either way, but yours look so PRETTY!
I sometimes find that rolling into a ball makes the cookies almost too puffy where as a domed/mounded shape works better for me but do how you’re used to doing!
love this holiday version of Peanut Butter Blossoms!!! brilliant and so festive!! I would take Santa down for a few of these :)
OMG these are so stinking cute!!! I love those peppermint kisses. PINNED :)
Thanks, Aimee :)
I wouldn’t mind polishing off a few of these either! So festive!
Oh,my! This looks amazing! Will try these cookies tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration! :)
These are so pretty, Averie! And I love that it’s a blossom cookie recipe without shortening. So much simpler and more natural!
These cookies are adorable! Love how festive and beautiful they are!
Love how easy these look to make! So pretty too!
Hands down, these would be my favorite blossom cookies. Peppermint kisses are my favorite!
Someone at work keeps bringing a bag of those candy cane kisses and at first, I ignored them. T hen I tried one and now I want to hoard all of them! They are SO good!
I definitely think of peanut butter blossoms as holiday cookies, also. I think this is a great spin, and I was just thinking about a good easy cookie to make for my neighbors. I was even going to email you to get a suggestion. I may even be more lazy and just get the pre-made dough. That sounds like a great idea.
You’re a saint for even thinking about baking for neighbors when you’re sick and up to your eyeballs in work! If you are going to bake cookies, these are as easy as they get! :)
And yes, those Kisses are pretty darn good!
How sweet! Love the name.
These are some of the prettiest holiday cookies I’ve ever seen–so cheery looking! I love this variation on one of my all time favorites. I am always so impressed with how your cookies look (absolutely perfect in size and shape). Gorgeous photos too!!
Aww, thanks, Paula! I usually make about 8 cookies at one time and then the top 4 are usually in the front of the pics and the less prettier ones go in back :) I always use a cookie scoop too otherwise I would never be able to get them the same size!
Kisses never looked prettier. Santa is going to want to kiss you for these! Pinned
Thanks, Tori!
These are gorgeous and so remind me of Santa’s hat…they are a perfect cookie to bring to a holiday party.
And that is exactly what I did…bring them to a party so we wouldn’t eat them all :)
I am always so obsessed with candy cane this time of year (its hard not to be) and these cookies look beautiful!
These would definitely spruce up any cookie tray! So festive Averie :)
