Chipotle Cheddar Avocado Tortilla Pinwheels โ Creamy avocado with sharp cheddar, cilantro, and a little bit of smoky chipotle heat! Easy, ready in 5 minutes, and everyone loves these! Great appetizer and a game day party favorite!!
Easy Party Pinwheels Recipe
Are you ready for football season and tailgating parties? I’m not really a big fan of the game itself, but I am definitely a fan of football food. Making a meal out of appetizers, snacks, dips, and chips is the best.
I love some good gluttonous party food as much as the next person, but in an effort to lighten things up I made these veggie pinwheels.
They’re meat-free, and you can keep them gluten-free by using corn rather than flour tortillas. You’ll never miss the meat in these rollups because they’re packed with flavor.
There’s a creamy avocado spread I made by mixing avocado with Silk’s Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative, the chipotle seasoning adds a nice kick, there’s bright and fresh cilantro, chewy sun-dried tomatoes, and the cheese is dairy-free (Try brands like this or this).
The tortilla pinwheels are incredibly fast and easy to make and in 5 minutes you’ll be snacking away. It’s usually the fast and easy recipes that go first at parties and these are no exception.
My friends gobbled them up at a recent get-together, and you can easily double or triple the recipe depending on how many hungry fans you have.
What’s in the Tortilla Pinwheels?
To make this easy pinwheel appetizer recipe, you’ll need:
- Tortillas
- Avocado
- Silk Dairy-Free Yogurt
- Lemon juice
- Cheddar cheese (use dairy-free, if needed)
- Chipotle seasoning
- Sun-dried tomatoes
- Fresh cilantro
How to Make Tortilla Pinwheels
In a small bowl, mash together the avocado, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and yogurt. Spread the avocado mixture over two burrito-size tortillas.
Add the cheese slices on top, then sprinkle with the chipotle seasoning, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh cilantro.
Roll the tortillas up, then slice into 1-inch pinwheels.
Can This Recipe Be Prepared in Advance?
Yes! You can make the party pinwheels up to 12 hours before you plan on serving them. The avocado mash shouldn’t oxidize in that time since it gets mixed with lemon juice first.
Tips for Making Veggie Pinwheels
When spreading the avocado mixture over the tortillas, be sure to leave a 1/4-inch margin around the edges so the filling doesn’t ooze out.
You’re welcome to mix and match the fillings of this tortilla roll ups recipe. Use different cheeses, add more herbs, and so on.
This recipe is easy to double or triple, so make however many tortilla pinwheels as you need!

The football food is the best part of watching a football game :)
Amen to that!! :)
YUM! I love anything chipotle, and I’m thinking I could maybe use pepper jack cheese to up the spiciness even more! Thanks for the great idea. And I agree – my favorite meals are appetizers/snacks such as these!
Yum! You are speaking my cheese language here!! Thanks for sharing!
These look so good! We love rollups but with cheese and avocado they’d be even better!
Everything’s better with cheese and avocado I think :)
I’m with you…the game does not intrigue me at all but these roll ups sure do! Pinned :)
Thanks for pinning and me and you are the last two people to sit on the couch watching football :)
These rollups have my mouth watering! ย So many bold flavors.
What a versatile recipe!! ย I love the flavors here, but I could also see doing apple instead of the avocado, with those same spices. ย Or making these in puff pastry. ย Or using the ingredients without the wrap and making it into a dip. ย
Perfect for a game, even though I know you don’t watch them. ย You’re crazy.
There are like a bazillion ways and combos to use said ingredients (or similar), like you said puff pastry (I did something like this for my 2nd cookbook with pumpkin spread that I rolled up in puff pastry now that you mention that!)
It’s the perfect gameday food. And watching games? The LAST thing I would spend 3 hours of time doing. Ever. :)
You had me with chipotle, and avocado! I’m definitely going to be trying this soon!

These look incredible and if I have the right ingredients I might make them for lunch today. I’ve recently stopped eating red meat so the fact that these are meat-free is great!
White Walls & Wanderlust
These look so fresh and delicious – the perfect meal to end the summer. I have a whole Pinterest board where, I think, this recipe will feel comfortable. I love making rollups because they require so little cooking and a whole lot of eating xD ย But seriously, the recipe is quite open for interpretations and you can even put some cheese on top of them and heat them in the oven for a bit, like mini pizzas.
You’re exactly right that there are so many interpretations and ways to go here…can’t go wrong, really!
Happy Monday Averie! With recipes like this one its definitely a happy day for me here, I can never say no to avocado and cheddar cheese! These rollups are the perfect party food, delicious and no mess or sicker fingers!
I can never say no to avocado or cheese either!
I love football and ate my share of tex mex yesterday…but I would have loved to be eating these. I’ll be making them Thursday extra spicy!!!
I love the idea of sundried tomatoes in these along with avocado and spicy cheddar– can’t wait to try it!
YESSSS more food that I can “pretend” to watch football for…but really I’m just there to EAT. Avocados are my obsession and I’m loving that spicy goodness of these little rollups! Pinning!
Thanks for pinning! And I cannot even pretend :) I just flat out cannot even sit still for 3-4 hours knowing I could be running, working, shopping, cooking, ANYTHING….lol!
This is such a brilliant snacketizer idea! loving it a lot!
snacketizer <--- love that word!!!
I recently found out our neighborhood get together at the end of this month is a taco bar party–so these or the jalapeรฑo cheese bread would be great to take. Can’t decide (as usual) because they both look so good!!
These are definitely lighter than the cheese bread. More of a ‘fresh and light’ than a whoa, I just ate some decadent cheese bread, which is always fun knowing you brought THAT recipe that everyone went nuts over :) You could bring both because they are both like 5 mins of prep time!
