Flipping for Newman’s Own

I recently received these jars of sauce from Newman’s Own and as part of being a FoodBuzz Featured Publisher.

Jars of Red Newman's Own Tomato and Basil Bombolina and Roasted Garlic Sauce

I am anxious to try the Tomato & Basil and I’m sure Scott will love the Roasted Garlic

I have been craving bruschetta lately and I bet these sauces along with some fresh basil, and a few extra diced tomatoes would work perfectly.

Or I could try the Newman’s sauces as a pizza sauce.

Or I could use it over “Noodles”

If you don’t have a spiralizer, you can use a vegetable peeler and make zucchini ribbons rather than “noodles”.  Or you can buy a spiralizer here in case you love kitchen gadgets as much as I do and are just dying to clutter up your kitchen with another appliance to try out another gadget.
I do really love my spiralizer for fast and easy meals.  Zucchini noodles, carrot noodles, use it to make curly baked sweet potato fries.  I love it almost as much as much as these

Where were we.  Oh yes, back to sauce.  Normally I make my own red sauce in the Vita in about 7 seconds flat but the Newman’s Own sauces will come in handy when fresh tomatoes become a luxury.

I like that the Newman’s Own Foundation donates to charities around the world.

Top of Newman's own can -- All Profits to Charity, Newman's own foundation continue's Paul Newman's commitment to donate all royalties and other tax profits from this product for educational and charitable purposes. Paul Newman and Newman's own foundation have given over $300 Million to thousands of charities since 1982.

I was also sent me this Flip Ultra HD Camera

Flip Ultra HD Camera with usb coming out of it

I can’t wait to put it to use.

Maybe on our upcoming trip or just walking around daily life.

I may let Skylar play with The Flip and see what kind of video she captures.  Four year olds make great videographers.  Haven’t you heard?

I heard that you liked the Caramel Pumpkin Whip Dip

Caramel Pumpkin Whip Dip with crackers dipped in

It’s the perfect thing to make when you’ve got a little leftover pumpkin puree in the bottom of the can and don’t know what to do with it.  The dip comes together in less than 15 seconds and have you heard the expression, Finger lickin’ good?  Yeah, alrighty then.

Questions:

1. Have you tried Newman’s Own products?   Any favorites?

2. Do you take more pictures or videos?

I don’t actually take much video on my iPhone or with my DSLR that does either stills or video.  I don’t know why I never think to shoot video.  The Flip should have me inspired since it’s so cute and looks fun.

Looking back on Skylar’s early years, I wish I had shot more video.  I mean, home videos from when you’re a kid become the stuff that embarrassing high school or college graduation parties or wedding rehearsal dinner moments are made of, right?  All the home videos from when you were young and acting silly.

3. Weekend plans?

I’ve got a busy one lined up.  I hope you get some R & R and can unwind and recharge your batteries a little bit.  That’s the plan for me.  Not sure how true to “plan” things will actually play out but I can try.

P.S. Thanks for the $100 Visa & Pedometer Giveaway Entries

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Newman’s Own cereals are delicious, so I should totally be trying the sauces. As for my own HD Flip, I can’t find the dang thing! It’s lost somewhere in the house. Dang-it!

  2. I’ve tried the salsas and love them. I really like what the company stands for. I want to say we’ve tried pretzels too, but don’t hold me to that one ;-) Definitely picture taker not videos.

  3. Newman’s spaghetti sauces are good, but they’re definitely not a substitute for bruschetta. Bruschetta is way chunkier with a more prominent fresh veggie and olive oil taste. I haven’t bought it for a long time so I’m not sure if they still make it, but the Classico bruschetta is excellent for something from a jar.
(I’m assuming you know that Trader Joe’s has good bruschetta in the refrigerated section.)

    1. I know it’s chunkier but as sort of a “base layer” I thought the sauce might be nice..pizza meets bruschetta type idea.

And no, I didnt know that about TJs. Thanks!

And they got fig butter in stock at my TJs…yay!

  4. the camera seems great!
I bet Skylar will record some awesome videos ;)
I definitely take more pictures, but I think it´s fun to videotape, too, especially with children. I love watching the (sadly, rare) videos of myself as a child, especially the gmynastic ones :D
    Have a great weekend, Averie!

  5. I love Newman’s Own! The pasta sauce is so delicious. I don’t think I have a favourite, just whatever is in the cupboard will do. Besides, I always end up adding what the sauce doesn’t have (ie. adding garlic to the basil flavour, adding basil to the garlic flavour). I can never leave a jar of anything alone, it’s gotta have more flair added to it :)

I take LOTS of photos, and quite a bit of videos. For daily life stuff I usually just use my iPhone, but blog photos are all taken with the DSLR.

Weekend plans? Sadly, no. Too much R&R for me it looks like, haha. Family is away, friends are behind on homework, & the boyfriend is working. Maybe some baking time for me…I’m sure I’ll find some way to enjoy it :)

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I take lots of photos too and use the same strategy as you, mostly. But do throw in some edited iphone pics. If I dont run them thru Lightroom first, not good. lol

  6. I love Newman Own’s products! Even though it’s easy to throw some homemade spaghetti sauce together, I always have some Newman’s in the pantry for when I’m too lazy. I use the plain marinara sauce and then just jazz it up with other ingredients if I want to. I also use this for a dipping sauce when I make breadsticks.

  7. My Mother would be proud to know I’ve never had “gravy” from a jar, but ya know – I’ve heard pretty darn good things about Newman’s.

  8. Yum!! I haven’t had bruschetta in forever. Great idea! I definitely like Newman’s Own. I take way more pictures than videos!

  9. happy weekend!
i have not tried any newman’s own products. but i fully would. paul newman exuded such class, i always thought, and i love how proceeds go to charity.
i take 100% pictures. oh – i got to play with a friend’s iphone 4 this eve…holy cow, i cannot wait to ditch my bb and get one!!! i get what all the oohing and aaahing is about now!!

  10. I love Newmans!! Only thing is they are a little high in sugar but I just had some over spaghetti squash the other day!

  11. I love Newman’s Own Pasta Sauces! Well….any sauce or salsa. My favorites pasta sauces are Roasted Garlic & Pepper, Marinara with Mushrooms & when I really want to treat myself I go for Newman’s Own Vodka Sauce….YUM!

BTW – your Caramel Pumpkin Whip Dip is pure genius. I can’t wait to make my own!

*I’m so glad I found you on Instagr.am yesterday, I love your site! :)

  12. I didn’t notice it in your previous post, but the last picture of your Caramel Pumpkin Whip Dip is amazing. I love the arrangement and details of it.

    1. thanks, Mai! I work hard on my food styling so I really appreciate that you noticed and complimented me :)

  13. oh, yay – does this mean we get to see a video of you?? (I turned down this one because I was CHICKEN to do the video recipe…) ;)

I’m more of a photo girl, but we do take video sometimes. the dog, you know.

    1. Not sure. You don’t have to do a video. Encouraged, but not “required”. We shall see…

      :)

  14. Newman’s Own offers SO many great products. The salsa is incredible. My personal favorites are Pineapple and Tequila Lime (zero proof, haha). The salad dressings are great too. My fave? The “Lighten Up Low Fat Ginger Sesame”, it’s perfectly sweet, tangy, and very light!

  15. The roasted garlic is SO good. Tip for non-gf folks: It’s almost too overpowering with garlic bread, at least imho (and I love garlic!).
Btw, that’s the first time I’ve seen your red sauce recipe, and I’m thinking that’s a sneaky and great way to get some carrots onto my husband’s plate. Naturally, this will come after I’ve bought a food processor, unless there’s a way to make this without a processor or blender.
    Have a fantastic weekend!

    1. you could omit the carrots if you want or just dice them fine and throw them into a bowl of mashed tomatoes and do it by hand…or you could go to target and buy a mini food processor for 5 bucks and call it good that way, too :)

the carrots are not essential…nor is the food proc but it may make things a little easier.

  16. that camera looks awesome! how neat that you got it for free. i love trying tomato sauces – i come from an italian family – youll have to let us know how it ranks!
