There are times when I don’t even need to bake cookie dough into cookies.
I’m perfectly content with the raw dough.
The sweet, rich, sprinkle-filled dough satisfies cookie dough cravings, and it’s safe to eat raw. No eggs.
Over my lifetime I’ve eaten my weight in raw dough and batter, but many people get pretty freaked out about raw eggs. Thankfully this recipe is freakout-free.
The cookie dough balls are fast and easy to make, and perfect for when you just need a quick treat. You can whip a batch up in less than 10 minutes.
Maybe they’re a little too fast and easy, but thankfully the recipe just makes a baker’s dozen and they’ll keep for months in the fridge or freezer.
The dough balls taste just like real Funfetti cookie dough. There’s plenty of sprinkles and just the right amount of white chocolate chips for flavor, but not so many that they’ll fall out. I tend to overload my dough.
Baking soda is added for flavor authenticity rather than for structural results. I wouldn’t bake the dough because I suspect the cookies would spread since there’s no egg to lend structure, a high ratio of granulated sugar, and not enough baking soda. For a sure thing, make these Softbatch Funfetti Sugar Cookies.
I made the cookie dough balls in honor of my friend Sally and her upcoming wedding. Some friends and I are throwing her an online bridal shower today and everyone is posting recipes with sprinkles. Sprinkles are Sally’s kryptonite and I think she has more recipes with sprinkles and Funfetti than anyone else.
I’ve known Sally since the early days of both of our blogs. I remember getting about 10 comments from this unknown girl named Sally in 2011 and finally went to her site to check it out and left her a comment. She later told me that my comment was the first comment she ever received on her blog.
Over the years, Sally and I have exchanged no less than about ten thousand emails on everything from recipe successes and failures to cookbook writing trials and tribulations to where we’re going on vacation next. I’m so happy for her that she’s marrying the love of her life in just a few short months. I wish her and Kevin nothing but love, happiness, and good fortune.
And may there continue to be lots of sprinkles in their life.

FUNFETTI®-Inspired Cookie Dough Balls
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)
- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, not teaspoon
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- pinch salt, optional and to taste
- 1 tablespoon milk or cream, only if necessary for dough consistency
- ⅓ cup white chocolate chips
- ⅓ cup sprinkles
Instructions
- To the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or large mixing bowl and electric mixer) combine the butter, sugars, vanilla, and beat on medium-high speed until creamed and well combined, about 4 minutes.
- Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the flour, baking soda, optional salt, and beat on low speed until just combined, about 1 minute.
- Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the white chocolate chips, sprinkles, and beat on low speed until just combined, about 30 seconds. If your dough seems dry or crumbly, add milk or cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough comes together. Conversely, if your dough seems too wet, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time until dough comes together.
- Using a 2-inch cookie scoop or your hands, form approximately 13 equal-sized mounds of dough and roll into balls. Serve immediately. Cookie dough can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for at least 1 month, or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

You ladies are all so sweet to honor Sally as her wedding approaches! I’m sure she’s cherishing all the love you’re sprinkling on her today. These cute cookie dough balls are calling my name; I love the addition of white chocolate chips and sprinkles{two of my favorite things!} I appreciate you making the recipe small, because I may not share:)
I always think in small batches! That way when it’s done, you know it was at least a small batch and not like 4 dozen..LOL
Honestly, these look so delicious Averie. Kind of want to pop a few in for breakfast! Pinning! :)
Thanks for pinning and your cake today, girl, such a beauty!!
I always “taste” my batter before putting anything in the oven. Some people think I’m crazy, but there’s just something about cookie batter that’s a bit better than the cookie itself. Sally is such an awesome blogger, and reading all these bridal shower posts fills me with joy. I actually found your site through her, and check both almost everyday. I may be quite, but I love the way the two of you write and all the recipes I’ve made have always turned out AWESOME. I’m sure these will be no exception!
Thanks for telling me how you found me and for the nice compliments! Glad you like my style and that the recipes have always turned out awesome – nice to know! And tasting the batter is mandatory! I mean there are times where if I didn’t taste the batter and just baked said cake, muffin, etc. without tasting first that I wouldn’t have been super thrilled with the results. Sometimes just a splash more vanilla, pinch of cinnamon, etc can really make a huge difference!
What a sweet friend you are. I’m laughing about the raw cookie dough–I eat it, but I typically don’t let my kids eat it … my mother-in-law is deathly opposed to children eating raw cookie dough because she is sure disaster will ensue. Meanwhile, my mother, the Baking Queen, thinks I am depriving my children of their constitutional right to ingest cookie dough. I can’t win with the grandmas no matter how hard I try … wait, yes I can … I can make THIS! :)
I love that the 2 grandmas are polar opposites. I am totally fine with raw dough and eggs. Good for some immune-system strengthening. I mean not daily or anything (unless I’m writing a cookbook at which point I am eating tons of raw dough and batter, daily) but I side more with the constitutional right side of the equation :)
I am in LOVE! And you’re so smart to add the baking soda for the authentic cookie flavor. Pinned of course!
Girl I saw your donuts in the top row of FG today just killin’ it. BRAVO! That PB pastry cream stuff…heavenly, I know! Thanks for pinning these!
Your blog and Sally’s blogs are my all time favorite food blogs! I always get so giddy when I see a new post from one of you two! I saw these and was like oh wow these look like something Sally would make. Then I kept reading and found out that these are for Sally! How awesome!!! Sounds liked you two have an awesome friendship! What an awesome thing to do for such a special friend. I have 3 kiddos that are obsessed with sprinkles so I am making these as a special after school snack for their first day of school next week! I can’t wait to see their little smiles when I see all of the sprinkles! One of their favorite things to do is eat the dough right after we mix up a batch of cookies together. Now they can eat all the dough they want since there’s no eggs in this dough!!!
Thanks for telling me that mine and Sally’s are your two fave blogs and that you get excited for new posts – wow, that’s awesome! If you have little kids who love sprinkles, I am sure they’re going to really love these little treats! Hope the first week of school goes well for them!
SO fun. Love these! So easy and cute!
These look amazing! I’ve made eggless cookie dough many times but only ever with semi-sweet chocolate chips. I can’t believe I never thought to do funfetti & I’m so glad you did- Can’t wait to try it! It’s also so sweet that you did this for Sally. You are two of my absolute favorite bloggers!
Thank you for saying that, Marina, and so sweet of you! I hope you get a chance to try this out :)
Yep, totally making these! I have a birthday coming up and I’m thinking this would be better than cake!
Well happy early bday!! :)
What a fun surprise for Sally! This is such a great idea, and I’m sure she’s so touched by all of the sprinkle love. And these cookie dough balls look delicious! I’m all about funfetti, so can’t wait to try this out!
I think she was pretty darn surprised and that’s what we wanted!
I’m so happy for Sally! And I’m so jealous of whoever gets to eat these! I’ll have to make some for myself!
My 7 year old went to town on these :)
You’re a good blog friend! Sally is lucky to have you! This recipe is right up her alley.
Mine, too. So delicious!
Well thank you for saying that and I’ve met some great girls blogging, and Sally is one of them :)
I don’t know what it is about raw cookie dough that is so irresistible–but it just is so we might as well have some good recipes dedicated to it! These look so yummy with white choc chips. What a fun recipe for a bridal shower or any time a sweet, cheery treat is in order!
Thank you, Paula!
Averie!! Oh my gosh, my heart is pounding and I’m almost in tears to wake up to all these sprinkles on my blog reader this morning. And then to read that they are all for me! I am so lucky to have you because I don’t think I would have gotten through a lot of these blog (and book!) challenges without your advice and “oh it’s happened to me before and here’s what I do” – thank you for all of that! Yes, you were my first blog comment and I’ll never forget it. And these funfetti cookie dough balls look like breakfast to me. The perfect addition to this wonderfully sweet shower!
I am SO GLAD you are surprised!! I didn’t know if we could all pull it off but we did :) YAY! And I am so happy you’re going to have a special day! And yes, all these sprinkles are for you!
I remember when I was writing PB Comfort and you were writing your book, we’d have so many epic emails about omg I cannot believe this just happened with this recipe or that recipe, or that my pub wants the images uploaded in this format and how do I do this, and we’d put our heads together. All of the book and blog stuff, going through it together for the first time, and so many special memories I will never forget! xoxo
full of sprinkles and freakout free? love it!! congrats Sally! :)
I used to think the whole purpose of making cookies was just to eat the dough!! so I’m so with you on eating you weight in cookie dough…can’t wait to make these…Love Sally’s blog too and wish her much happiness.
Glad you can relate to eating your weight in raw dough :)
