Gloomy Day

The weather here today was the opposite of the normal San Diego sunny weather and blue skies we have.

San Diego palm trees and cloudy skies

It was rainy, gloomy, windy, and one of those days you want to cross things off your to-do list inside, rather than doing things outside.

However, I did venture out for a few groceries.

The stores were such a zoo and the roads were a mess.  1/20th of an inch of rain and you’d think it was a flood or natural disaster.  People here cannot drive in the rain.

I grew up in Minnesota and Chicago and I can drive a two-seater stick shift in 14 inches of snow and 40 mph winds while putting lipstick on in my rearview mirror and belting out 80s hits karaoke-style.  I could probably talk on the phone and eat my drive-thru, too.  Don’t you love it when you see people beyond multi-tasking in their car.  Makeup application, phone calls, reading emails, sending texts.  I want to remind them they are driving and that should be the priority but that’s another topic.

But in Southern California where the weather is ususally like this…

Driving on wet roads means accidents, chaos, and gridlock.

I enjoyed some at-home yoga.

And I also checked off a baking project off from my Weekend List.

…Was used to make something along the lines of these.

Baked Chocolate Peanut Butter Donuts with Vanilla Peanut Butter Glaze taste even better on weekend days.

Especially when it’s gloomy and the peanut butter glaze is all melty and oozing down the warm donuts.  You’ll forget about the rain.

What did you do on Saturday or what’s been the best part of your weekend so far?

What do you like to do when it’s gloomy, raining (or snowing) out?

  1. So true on driving, rain here has been adding complications here too. And so many drivers seem determined to distract themselves from the fact that they’re driving since it’s become such a mundane task with daily commutes, makes the road scary!

    1. “determined to distract themselves from the fact that they’re driving” — isn’t that the truth. I’m sure you see tons where you are, too. But on a daily basis, I’m always just floored!

  2. Saturday was spent running shoe shopping for the husband, and the running store was also packed. I moved from MN and agree with you about San Diego driving and rain – ridiculous. Also, I think we shop at the same Trader Joe’s… :)

  3. OMG, I made the Chocolate Donuts with Peanut Butter Glaze this morning and they.are.awesome. I have tried donuts from several other sites, and yours are the only ones that are THIS good! Thanks! (I make the cinnamon ones on a regular basis)

  4. I’ve been ignoring pretty much all the blogs I regularly read lately, but have been catching up today. OMG…those donuts are amazing! I’m def making some but peanut free. Hope they come out as amazing as those look!

What did you do on Saturday or what’s been the best part of your weekend so far? Saturday we stayed at home, and hung out in our pajamas ALL DAY LONG, and it was glorious! :)

What do you like to do when it’s gloomy, raining (or snowing) out? When the weather isn’t so nice, I love to keep the windows wide open and watch the sky. It is also the perfect excuse to snuggle under a blanket with tea close at hand, and a good book…at the moment I’m reading through all of Ayn Rand’s works. I had tried to read Rand before and couldn’t get into any of it. This time around, I am LOVING it all!

    1. I have an arsenal of peanut-free donuts in my dessert recipes section, under donuts…so enjoy if you make them!
