Happy New Year!  I rang in the new year with one Jello shot.

Empty plastic jello shot cup

I think Jello shots taste better if you’re underage or at a fraternity party.

Both of which were more than a couple years ago for me.

I would have liked to have been drinking Veuve but I had two hot dates and couldn’t risk my vision being impaired or just falling asleep.

Bottle of Veuve Cliequot champagne

My first hot date was with my pal, Lightroom.

I was knee deep in chocolate photos that I wanted to edit.

Jar of chocolate Chips

After staring at a computer screen for so many hours a day as it is and my eyes glazing over without any help, the last thing I needed to attempt was tipsy editing.

It’s a dark chocolate recipe rather than white chocolate but you can imagine looking at all those chips on the screen after a few drinks.  Blurry much?

And after my date with LR 3, I had a date with the ladies of Beverly Hills on my DVR.

I hate coming home from vacations and having a pile of laundry and a pile of bills to sort, but one windfall is that I have a pile of fun shows to watch that are waiting for me.  My DVR is chock full of Top Chef Texas, the Kardashians, Kendra, the Real Housewives, Iron Chef, and more mindless programming.

Since I’m well-stocked with trashy and reality TV on my DVR, I didn’t want to fall asleep on my DVR date which is likely what would have happened had I popped the bubbly.  So I refrained.

And just to get the new year started off with a healthy weekend breakfast, I may make Baked Chocolate Peanut Butter Donuts with Vanilla Peanut Butter Glaze

Because they’re baked donuts and not friend and have peanut butter in them, they’re healthy, right.  But of course.

Nothing like getting 2012 started off right.

Resolutions?  Nah, not so much.

How was your New Years Eve?  What did you do?

Did you stay in or go out?  Did you stay awake until midnight?

I made it until midnight because I live in urban San Diego near a large hospital and the siren, ambulance, and police noise leading up to midnight, and well after, was rampant and frequent.

Not everyone had a safe and mellow holiday if the amount of sirens, police, and ambulances up and down the streets all night long (and for a few days leading up to New Years Eve) were any indication.

I hope you had a safe, fun, and great New Year’s Eve.

Happy 2012!

  1. This year the boyfriend and I stayed in and were in bed by 11. It was the first New Year’s in a long while I haven’t gone out, and it was glorious!

  2. Happy New Years! Want to hear something sad? I never had a jello shot! I’ll have to try one sometime! Have a great 2012, I look forward to see what you have cooking!

  3. Happy New Year, Doll!!! I wish you ALL the best, love, passion and success for 2012!!

    Your pics are GORGEOUS!!!!!

    xxoo

  4. I stayed in and watched a movie. It was great – I was in bed by 12:30, but no bubbly for me. Nor jello shots. Nor wild stories. I’m old and lame though, so no surprises there.

Your pictures of the jello shot just pop! Great job editing or taking or both!

  5. Happy New year!!

I stayed in with my family, just a few more days I have with them, so taking all I can get with my niece.

  6. first off happy new years!

second i just wanted to let you know i made your raw chocolate chip cookie dough balls for my birthday party and they were a huge hit! i used raw almonds instead of cashews because that’s what i had but followed the recipe otherwise. so thanks! they were super tasty!

    1. Thanks for LMK and that you used almonds, too (which are even less ‘authentic’ tasting than cashews so you’re in for a real treat if you ever try them with cashews b/c they are much creamier and more butter-like than almonds and more like real dough) but sounds like it all worked out.

Happy Bday & your sushi was so colorful!

  7. I went to my friend’s sister’s apartment at SDSU. It was fun, just 6 of us girls having a good time. Didn’t feel to great this morning, but it’s getting better. Off to Peet’s to see my best friend for the last time since I leave for college again tommorow.

    1. sounds like a fun night! Enjoy your last hours of ‘freedom’ and no homework before you leave for school :)

  8. Happy 2012, Averie!! We had a very low key NYE, which was just fine by me :-) And yes, I think you’re totally right– jello shots just don’t have the same appeal past the age of about 25!! :-)

  9. Your NYE dates sound fantastic to me. I like the simple evenings…and chocolate pictures :) Wishing you great things in 2012!

  10. I totally agree about the jello shots. Ever since college they have never had quite the same appeal. They are quite pretty and festive though! I made it until 2 last night which was crazy for me. Of course my internal clock still woke me up early. Can’t wait for your new chocolate recipe.

  11. I think Jello shots are overrated. I never got the appeal. I made it to 4 am actually. No idea why we ended up staying up that late, but hey it only comes once a year! It was the first time I ever went out for NYE and it was a blast! But definitely not something to do all the time. I’m tired and I have a wrap around my ankle. Apparently I should have worn proper foot attire if I was planning on dancing the night away!

    1. And thank YOU for all your support and lovely comments and friendship over the years, too, Brooke :)

  12. Hahahaha I love that you had a jello shot!! I had a low-key night with the fam. Drank beer and played Harry Potter. My plans fell through at the last minute so I was kind of bummed, but hey- NYE is always kinda overrated anyway. Happy new year!

    1. Plans falling through…that is so classic NYE and early 20something antics (and it sucks!) but glad you made the best of it.

  13. happy new year averie!! i celebrated last night and paying for it this morning, totally worth it though. don’t drink much anymore so when i do its a treat and was a great time. i really should get lightroom and keep thinking about it, maybe i’ll treat myself :)

    1. Best $200 you’ll ever spend and there are always deals on it online if you hunt around..you’ll love it!

  14. Happy New Year Averie!

We rang in the new year with my mum and dad who are both in their 70s so it was nice and quiet! Lazy day today – one of those horrible British days when it gets dark at 2pm. Urgh…totally not looking forward to January weatherwise!
