Easy Honey Lemon Chicken Pasta Recipe

Lemon and honey are so good together. This angel hair pasta with chicken is bright, tangy and sweet, and feels perfect for warmer weather. Itโ€™s a fast, easy pasta recipe that the whole family will love. Bonus: itโ€™s ready in less than 20 minutes!

I used angel hair pasta because it cooks so quickly, and because the chicken is cut into bite-sized pieces it also cooks fast. After cooking the pasta, it’s transferred into the skillet the chicken cooks in, and everything is tossed together in the honey lemon sauce the chicken simmers in.

The sauce helps keep the chicken perfectly moist and tender. It’s tart yet sweet enough and coats the pasta perfectly. I love the pronounced lemon flavor that’s achieved from a combination of lemon juice and lemon pepper seasoning.

If you’re a lemon lover or a fan of easy dinners that taste like a million bucks but that are really so simple, you’ll love this angel hair pasta recipe for those busy nights!

How to Make Lemon Chicken Pasta

To make this easy pasta recipe, first cook the angel hair pasta according to package instructions.

While the pasta cooks, prep the honey lemon chicken. Add the honey, lemon juice, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, lemon pepper seasoning, salt, pepper, and thyme to a large bowl and stir to combine.

Then, season chicken with lemon pepper seasoning and cook in an oiled skillet until it’s almost fully cooked. Turn the heat down and carefully add the sauce to the skillet. Allow the lemon sauce sauce to bubble at a low boil for about 5 minutes, or until it’s thickened and reduced some.

Once the chicken is cooked through, add the pasta to the skillet and toss to combine. You can garnish the lemon chicken pasta with Parmesan, fresh herbs, or a squeeze of lemon juice!

Tips for the Best Lemon Chicken Pasta

I used angel hair pasta in this recipe because it cooks quickly, but you’re welcome to use any pasta you have on hand. I like longer, skinnier pastas for this recipe since the sauce coats them nicely, but shorter pastas (like bow tie) would be fine too.

For the best flavor, I recommend using freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of the bottled stuff. I know it seems like such a small thing, but fresh lemon juice is so much brighter and has lots more flavor in my opinion!

Your lemon pepper seasoning blend shouldn’t have salt in it, but if it does be sure to taste the sauce before adding any additional salt to it. You might not need to add any salt to this dish, it’s totally up to you.

Finally, make sure to flip the chicken a few times while it cooks to ensure it cooks through evenly. You don’t want one side of the chicken to be more browned than another side.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces angel hair pasta, cooked according to package directions
  • ยฝ cup honey
  • ยผ cup lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for sauce + 1 tablespoon for cooking chicken
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning blend for sauce + more for sprinkling over chicken
  • ยฝ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ยฝ teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • leaves from 2 or 3 sprigs of thyme, optional and to taste
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced into bite-sized pieces (about 1 1/2 pounds)

Instructions

Make the Pasta

  • Cook according to directions on box, drain, and set aside.

Make the Chicken

  • To a medium bowl or large measuring cup, add the honey, lemon juice, 2 tablespoons olive oil, apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning, salt, pepper, optional thyme, and stir to combine; set sauce aside.
  • To a large skillet, add 1 tablespoon olive oil, add chicken, generously sprinkle with lemon pepper seasoning, and cook chicken over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, flipping intermittently so all sides cook evenly. Cooking time will vary based on thickness of chicken breasts and sizes of pieces. Chicken should be about 90% cooked through.
  • Turn heat to medium-low, and carefully add the sauce noting that it may bubble up in the first few seconds.
  • Allow sauce to bubble at a low boil for about 5 minutes, or until sauce has thickened and reduced some, and chicken is cooked through. Stir sauce and flip chicken intermittently throughout.

Assemble the Pasta

  • Add pasta to skillet with the chicken and toss to combine and coat. Serve immediately.
  • Chicken and pasta are best warm and fresh, but will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently prior to serving.

I’ve been making this recipe for a few years now (I always seem to have all the ingredients on hand!) Today I decided to play with the recipe a little bit. It’s always been too sweet for me, so I used about 1/3 cup of honey. I put in some red pepper flakes with the sauce and before I cooked the chicken, I sautรฉed some onion and garlic. It’s absolutely perfect!

Super easy and delicious! Used linguine as I had it on hand. Angel hair would definitely be better but we really liked the dish anyway. Tossed in some frizen peas that went well with it for some green

  3. Do you happen to know how many calories are in a serving and how big is a serving and how many servings does this recipe make. Thank you. Made it and it was delicious.

  4. Made this for dinner tonight. Delicious and ligthis added a little extra pepper and lemon juice because it was a little too sweet for our tastes but other than that, yummmmmm!!!

  5. Hi Averie ! You share very easy recipes on your blog I am a very frequent user. This honey lemon chicken with angel hair pasta recipe looks so yummy. I am gonna make it this weekend. Thank you :-)

  6. This was so delicious! Quick-sauteed some asparagus and tossed it into the pasta/sauce/chicken mix just before serving. A sprinkle of grated parm on top. SO delicious. Definitely going into the regular rotation!

    1. Thanks for trying the recipe and Iโ€™m glad it came out great for you!

Glad it’s going into your regular rotation!

  7. This is the perfect summer dish for me. I make it every week, with enough for leftovers! It’s a fantastic, delicious, easy meal for an on-the-go teacher :) Thanks so much for sharing!

  8. Thanks for the awesome recipe! Just finished making/eating this! For us, the sauce was still a bit too thin so I added in some flour to thicken it. We also found the lemon pepper seasoning a bit much, so next time we will half the amount in the sauce and not use any on the chicken while it cooks. I figure I can always add more in towards the end if it tastes like there isn’t enough.

    Thanks again!

    1. Thanks for trying the recipe and Iโ€™m glad it came out well for you! I think brands of lemon pepper (and personal preference for lemon pepper seasoning) vary and so yes, you can always add more later :)

  9. I just finished up the kitchen after making this pasta…sooo delicious. I had read through the comments to see if any changes had been made before I made it. I saw a couple of concerns with using vinegar and getting the sauce to thicken. The sauce seemed not to be thickening for 5 minutes or so but then thickened rapidly. My mom told me that whenever the flavor of a dish didn’t seem quite right, add a bit of vinegar. We couldn’t taste the vinegar in this but I am sure it helps to bring the flavors of this recipe together. I will be making this frequently! Thank you.

    1. Thanks for trying the recipe and glad it came out great for you! And correct, it’s not a ‘thick’ sauce but more of something that coats everything so nothing is dry. Glad you’ll make this frequently!

  10. Wondering if you have figured out the calories, carbs, protein, etc. ย Thought I would ask before diving into calculating myself. ย Thanks!!! ย AWESOME dish. ย My husband said better than ANYTHING from Olive Garden !!

  14. I’m a good baker, but cook… not so much. This is the first recipe I’ve really pursued and did on my own – it turned out GREAT. I may have been a little too generous with the lemon pepper, but I still enjoyed it! Averie, your recipes are so reliable, thank you!!

    1. Thanks for trying the recipe and Iโ€™m glad it came out great for you – and a little extra lemon pepper never hurt anyone :) Thanks for the compliment about how reliable my recipes are. I really appreciate that!

  15. OH. MY. GOODNESS. This recipe has been sitting on my “to try” list for awhile, and my only regret is not making it sooner! SO incredible. I used linguine instead of angel hair, skipped the ACV since I didn’t have any on hand, and simmered the pasta in with the chicken and sauce for a few extra minutes before serving. This recipe is DEFINITELY joining the regular rotation, THANK you!
