KISS + Winner

Summertime is all about the simple things for me.  Ok, anytime is all about the simple things for me if I’m being honest.

I am too busy for anything other than the KISS principle, i.e. Keep It Simple, Sweetie

I use the KISS principle with everything in life.

Which is why food lately, and most times, has been fresh, raw, and crunchy.

I like to sprinkle edamame into my salads or just eat it alone.  Some people reach for protein shakes, I reach for edamame.

I also like to “drown” the edamame in a jar of Vegan Slaw Dressing and then use a spoon and fish them out.

I really love salad dressing and condiments.  What can I say.

With the edamame “drowning method” I can almost drink salad dressing which, of course, is a favorite pastime of mine.

Snacks are always KISS-able.

Fresh fruit like white nectarines

to strawberries dipped in Chocolate Coconut Cashew Butter

And one of my favorite KISS breakfast or snacktime or anytime foods are Microwave Banana Oat Cakes

A dessert that tames my chocolate monster and is KISS-errific are Chocolate Covered Oreo Balls

And now, what almost 300 of you are probably wanting to know based on the entries…

The winner of the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Giveaway is:

Jess@HealthyExposures June 20, 2011 at 5:26 pm

“oh man, you are hooking. us. up. lately! what an awesome giveaway.
i would love lightroom so that i can have a more streamlined, “batch” processing program versus opening each up in photoshop whenever i want to make a minor tweak. whether it’s simple photos for the blog or ones i’ve done for business, i think that is definitely where lightroom has an advantage!”

Congrats, Jess!  Email me your shipping info!

Thanks for the comments on my last post, Juicy, about all the juicy food you’ve been munching on and all juicy stories you’ve been privy to lately.

Questions:

1. What have you decided to keep simple lately?  Anything you’ve been using the KISS principle with?

Some of my KISS method items are:

food, snacks, meals.  No time for complicated or long, drawn-out recipes!

Workouts streamlined into 45 minutes per day or less

Quitting the gym

My attitude toward desserts/sweets/treats is also very simple.  Don’t overthink a brownie.  It really will not “ruin your life” or your “healthy” lifestyle choices.

2.  Weekend Plans?

I know I’m going to the Taste of Adams Avenue

I need to spend some time editing photos and doing some blog-related work, and I have to go to work, too.

But I know I’ll spend time with Skylar, too!

P.S. The Summer Tea Time Giveaway is open until Saturday so get your entries in for that and enjoy your weekend!

  1. skylars hair is SO LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha anyways i’m all about KISS foods during the work week but when i have off i LOVE making things extra difficult for myself haha for some reason it just tastes so much better when it’s difficult

    1. I know! I’ve never cut it and I don’t want to but obvi will have to one day soon-ish? It’s blond, waist length, all one length, hair. I wish her hair were on my head, too :)

  2. I like your version of the KISS principle. I always thought it was Keep It Simple, Stupid. Yeah, your version is much nicer-sounding.
Lately I have been following the KISS principle with my meals and snacks. I always seem to, especially in the Summertime when I have a bounty of fresh fruits and veggies available to me. Yum! :-)

    1. I know that version of KISS, trust me :)

that version exists too but figured I’d use the alternate one :)

  3. Agreed on keeping it simple and lots of fresh ingredients appeal to me in the summer heat.

    1. Keeping just more basic ingredients in my pantry that are cheaper and easier to manage and only buying food for the next week or so, not stocking up and cluttering my pantry for the next year.
    2. Pretty laid back, maybe going out with some friends and hiking.

  4. Microwave oat cakes are an all time favorite! Lately I’m loving dates and nut butter, and fresh veggies and hummus. Halved red pepper (raw) stuffed with leftover wild rice + hummus + nooch = perfect, filling, simple summer dinner.

  5. Congrats to Jess!! Beautiful pictures Averie. They look amazing!

I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Shh, I’m in hiding! No obligations so far and that’s just the way I like it.

  6. I absolutely love your pictures. I’ve had the chocolate Oreo truffles before and they’re amazing. So easy to make. I know there’s a raw food diet trend going on right now and it’s great that you’re applying it to your life. Keeping things simple is a great way to go about living. It’s really easy to get overwhelmed and stress out if you take on too much. That can include cooking. Raw foods not only simplify your life, but they’re good for you, too.

    1. I’ve been on this “trend” two decades. I just happen to always have liked lots of raw foods, simply prepared. It’s just the way I like to eat. I’m sure it won’t be trendy in 10 years and in 10 more it will be again. I will still be the same, I’m sure. :)

  7. I tried your microwave oat cake today! It’s really was simple! https://thatdeepbreath.wordpress.com/2011/06/24/69/
Mine turned out blue from the blueberries…i loved it. I have been trying to keep foods simple too, especially my snacks and dinner.
Your pictures look fantastic as well, I love the picture of the strawberries & chocolate dip. Beautiful

  8. I like your version of “KISS” mine doesn’t end with “sweetie” :)
    Lately I’ve been “kiss”-ing with:
    -workouts
    -food
Still getting in good workouts and eating good food, just not as elaborate on either.

    1. I have another version, or two, that end with a different S word at the end, too :)

  9. congrats to Jess… (guess I’ll have to go buy it myself…) ;)

I love edamame… and freshness all year, but especially now in the warmer months I crave big salads!

  10. I will be streamlining my workouts, too!
Just so you know, you got me absolutely addicted to banana microwaved with oatmeal.

  11. i LOVe white nectarines…I used to not like them because the whiteness scared me a little bit but they are SO delicious, sweet, juicy! my favorite are the hard ones (TWSS) haha sorry i had to do it!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend averie!!!

  12. Haha…we’re in the PROCESS of keeping everything simple over here– hopefully by getting rid of all the crap in our house, the KISS principle will be much easier to enforce in our new house :-)

  13. Keeping it simple in the summertime always seems so much easier than in any other season, mostly because fresh foods are so much tastier and the best ones are in season! Mmmmm.

Skylar just looks too cute for words. Wish I could go home and play with my little sister, just seeing that picture!

  14. I do love raw salads in the summertime! As always you food looks so good. I do love edamame, but I don’t like creamy salad dressings. I do love any type of vinegrette dressing.

  15. Averie, your photos are out of control. You have really come into your own as a photographer, and you should be VERY proud!

I really love salad dressings, too! It’s such a fun and easy thing to change around so your salads can always taste so different. Yours looks incredible, as always!
