Summertime is all about the simple things for me. Ok, anytime is all about the simple things for me if I’m being honest.
I am too busy for anything other than the KISS principle, i.e. Keep It Simple, Sweetie
I use the KISS principle with everything in life.
Which is why food lately, and most times, has been fresh, raw, and crunchy.
I like to sprinkle edamame into my salads or just eat it alone. Some people reach for protein shakes, I reach for edamame.
I also like to “drown” the edamame in a jar of Vegan Slaw Dressing and then use a spoon and fish them out.
I really love salad dressing and condiments. What can I say.
With the edamame “drowning method” I can almost drink salad dressing which, of course, is a favorite pastime of mine.
Snacks are always KISS-able.
Fresh fruit like white nectarines
to strawberries dipped in Chocolate Coconut Cashew Butter
If you like chocolate + nut butter, you really need this nut butter in your life.
And one of my favorite KISS breakfast or snacktime or anytime foods are Microwave Banana Oat Cakes
A dessert that tames my chocolate monster and is KISS-errific are Chocolate Covered Oreo Balls
And now, what almost 300 of you are probably wanting to know based on the entries…

“oh man, you are hooking. us. up. lately! what an awesome giveaway.
i would love lightroom so that i can have a more streamlined, “batch” processing program versus opening each up in photoshop whenever i want to make a minor tweak. whether it’s simple photos for the blog or ones i’ve done for business, i think that is definitely where lightroom has an advantage!”
Congrats, Jess! Email me your shipping info!
Thanks for the comments on my last post, Juicy, about all the juicy food you’ve been munching on and all juicy stories you’ve been privy to lately.
Questions:
1. What have you decided to keep simple lately? Anything you’ve been using the KISS principle with?
Some of my KISS method items are:
food, snacks, meals. No time for complicated or long, drawn-out recipes!
Workouts streamlined into 45 minutes per day or less
My attitude toward desserts/sweets/treats is also very simple. Don’t overthink a brownie. It really will not “ruin your life” or your “healthy” lifestyle choices.
2. Weekend Plans?
I know I’m going to the Taste of Adams Avenue
I need to spend some time editing photos and doing some blog-related work, and I have to go to work, too.
But I know I’ll spend time with Skylar, too!
P.S. The Summer Tea Time Giveaway is open until Saturday so get your entries in for that and enjoy your weekend!
oooh those white nectarines look SO delicious!
I love creamy salad dressings, and ranch with fresh crunchy veggies :)
I also love your KISS philosophy. And I have a similar attitude in the desserts department. I eat mostly vegan but I really try to stray away from labels
I’ve been trying to simplify my refrigerator by not replacing condiments as I use them up. Instead, I’m using more herb and spice blends that don’t need refrigerating. I’m tired of not being able to find stuff that I know is in there.
I like everything simple! I eat simple, I walk everywhere, so I don’t own a car. I do yoga as my work out, and I don’t even have a tv! My life is uber simple.
As for the weekend, working tomorrow, and then durian night with my sister! Yum!
Your recipes are so good and so simple. You are an excellent example
i have been all about kiss’ing lately! salads…eggs…waffles…super fast and on-the-fly but oh so delicious. i’ve been baking really simple stuff, too. raw or toaster-oven bakeable all the way!
thank you again for such a great giveaway!
LOVE your “kiss” principle! I could really use it!!
averie, your pictures are amazing. i want to eat that salad photo!! looks.so.good.
That’s a very good philosophy! And I love that about you:)
Reminds me I need to go pick up some frozen, shelled edamame! I haven’t had it in ages. I love it straight outta the bag.
It all looks so good. I was taken with the banana oat cake and of course the oreo balls. Skylar is so darn cute!
What a great concept, I’ve never heard that acronym before
I love your philosophy! It’s summer, so to me KISS means saying no to the oven: smoothies for breakfast, crisp fresh veggies for lunch and dinner. Chilled salads and lots of guacamole. I’ve also quit the gym in favor of long walks (preferably at the beach), bike riding and daily yoga. So much more fun and relaxing.
“KISS” will be my new word. I look forward to applying it all sorts of future conversations! What are my KISS option? Pita bread and tortillas are always on hand. All leftovers are filling options with hummus as the “glue”. That would definitely be a staple KISS approach over here.
I need to adapt KISS more often it’s a great way to live life. I’ve tend to want to make everything complicated. That was until I started my blog. I’m always thinking about how I can simplify a recipe, cut out steps, bowls, and ingredients, without sacrificing on taste. Problem is, I love complicated recipes with lots of steps and add-ins. So, it’s a difficult balance!
Congrats Jess :) She’s going to LOVE it!!
Yes I know about blogging/simplifying recipes.
When you have lots to cook/prepare/shop for/make/photograph/type…the LESS steps, the better :)
I’ve also totally streamlined my workouts to less than 45 minutes most days and have decided to just make my lifestyle more active rather than always scheduling workouts. It’s freed up so much time for more living! In general my life is more simple in the summer, and I adore that. Last night got a bit complicated trying to decide what ice cream flavor and toppings to choose at friendly’s for a frizzle… ;)
Last night’s dinner totally abided by the KISS mentality: soup + salad. Easy. Simple. Filling.
I would love to meet up with you while at Taste of Adams to thank you in person! Think we could arrange it??
P.S. I take swim in my salad dressing daily. It’s great cardio :-)
haha…I’m with Teenage Taste-Everyone always told me it was “Keep it Simple, Stupid.” But sweetie works even better :P
yeah I know that version too :)
