Easy Limoncello Spritz Recipe

Spring is in the air, summer is on the horizon, and while I know many people who drink limoncello around the holidays, for me this is a bright and cheery drink that’s refreshing for warm weather and sunny days.

Whether you want to serve these for brunch, including Mother’s Day brunch alongside mimosas, aperol spritz or on a lazy weekend afternoon or at a casual backyard get-together, everyone loves this lightly bubbly cocktail.

A glass of limoncello with ice cubes, garnished with mint leaves, accompanied by fresh lemons and flowers in the background.

Made with just 3 key ingredients – including prosecco, limoncello, and club soda – and optional agave or simple syrup, this is such an easy drink to make even if bartending skills aren’t your forte.

I love to use my Homemade Limoncello (limoncello is an Italian liqueur) in this sipping drink, but of course store bought limoncello is fine. The lemon flavor is just lovely.

With one of these effervescent and perfectly lemony and tart cocktails in your hand, you’ll feel like you’re transported to southern Italy and the Amalfi Coast. Cin cin!

Limoncello Spritz FAQs

can i use store bought limoncello?

Yes of course! I love my homemade limoncello (limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur) but store bought limoncello will work.

can i make a big batch or pitcher of limoncello spritz drinks?

Yes you sure can. Since it’s a ratio of 3:2:1 (3 parts prosecco- 2 parts limoncello – 1 part club soda) and then sweetener to taste, you can big batch this, as desired.

can i make a batch of limoncello spritzer in advance?

Yes and no. While neither prosecco nor club soda will go flat in an instant, I wouldn’t make it more than a few hours in advance because the carbonation will dissipate. Store it in a pitcher in your fridge until you’re ready to serve it.

is this lemon cocktail the same as a lemon drop?

No. A lemon drop includes vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Whereas this lemon spritz cocktail has processo, limoncello (which is sweetened in the process of making it with simple syrup), club soda, and optional additional simple syrup.

How can i make a lemon drop with limoncello?

Swap out the prosecco in this recipe with vodka, add the limoncello, omit the club soda, and add sweetener to taste. Add it all to a shaker with ice, strain, and serve.

can i make an aperol spritz with limoncello?

Yes you sure can. My husband has an excellent Limoncello Aperol Spritz recipe on his drinks site! Follow it to the T for an excellent drink.

Ingredients

  • ice
  • 3 ounces dry prosecco, (cava, champagne, or your favorite dry bubbly may be substituted)
  • 2 ounces limoncello, (use my homemade limoncello recipe or your favorite store bought)
  • 1 ounce club soda
  • ¼ to ½ ounce simple syrup, agave, or your favorite sweetener, optional and to taste
  • lemon wedges, fresh mint, fresh basil, etc., optional for garnishing

Instructions

  • Fill an 8-ounce glass most of the way with ice.
  • Add the prosecco, limoncello, club soda, stir gently, and taste.
  • Optionally, if desired, add a bit of sweetener, to taste, and stir.
  • Optionally garnish, as desired, and serve.

Notes

Want to make a bigger batch? Since this recipe is 3:2:1 (prosecco:limoncello:club soda) it’s easy to batch up. Combine everything in a large pitcher, stir, taste, and if desired add sweetener, to taste, and garnish.
Want to make this in advance? You can, although be mindful that both the prosecco and club soda will lose their carbonation as time passes so I wouldn’t do it more than a couple hours ahead of time. Store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve it.
