Puppy chow, party mix, snack mix, Chex mix. Yes, please.
Whatever you want to call it, it just gets better with peanut butter and Nutella.
Who can say no to crunchy, salty-and-sweet mixes anyway.
Two trips ago to Aruba, I made these Cinnamon Sugar Chocolate Pretzels and over a year later, my husband was still talking it.
Back in Aruba, and not wanting to turn on my oven or devote more than 5 minutes to making something, I figured I could reinvent and enhance that recipe.
I didn’t know how I was going to one-up my own recipe that was such a hit with him, but figured that peanut butter, Nutella, and sprinkles would be a good start.
I was right. He likes this version even more. And I’m not complaining either.
It’s crazy addictive, and I recommend not making it unless you enjoy cardio. I keep the gallon-sized stash in the freezer both to hide it from ourselves, and because it tastes even better chilled. The snappy crunch factor of the pretzels is intensified.
I used checkerboard-style pretzels, which are the perfect holding cells, literally, for the melted peanut butter-chocolate Nutella mixture. It gets in every nook and cranny and clings so well.
The peanut butter and Nutella is a match made in tastebud heaven. But I’m partial because I think peanut butter and chocolate is the world’s most perfect flavor pairing.
The confectioners’ sugar soaks up the peanut butter-chocolate sauce so that it’s not a drippy hot mess, and balances the saltiness from the pretzels, peanut butter, and peanuts.
I tossed in honey roasted peanuts but if you’d like to omit, or use popcorn, Chex, a favorite cereal, or another nut, feel free. I love it when the nuts get stuck to the pretzels by way of the saucy peanut butter glue.
My husband said this would make a great football-watching snack. I think that’s a hint I should make it again.
I think it’s a great anytime snack. It’s buttery and rich, even though no butter is used.
It’s so fast and easy to make that it’s dangerous.

Peanut Butter Nutella Pretzel and Peanut Snack Mix
Ingredients
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup Nutella
- about 3 1/2 to 4 cups checkerboard mini pretzels
- about 2 cups honey-roasted peanuts, or regular peanuts, or another favorite nut; or omit
- about 2 1/2 cups confectionersโ sugar
- ยฝ heaping cup sprinkles, jimmies, optional
Instructions
- Combine peanut butter and Nutella in a large microwave-safe bowl, and heat to melt, about 1 minute on high power. Stir to combine. (I only use commercial peanut butter like Jif or Peter Pan and have not tried it with homemade peanut butter)
- Add the pretzels, peanuts, and stir to coat evenly.
- Add 2 cups confectionersโ sugar, and toss to coat evenly. Mix should be fairly dry. Add 1/2 cup additional sugar, or as needed, to dry it out.
- Add sprinkles, tossing well to distribute.
- Transfer mix to a one-gallon plastic ziptop bag or other airtight container. Serve immediately, or serve chilled. I prefer to store this mix the freezer. It will keep airtight at room temperature for weeks, or in the freezer for months. Recipe may be kept gluten-free by using gluten-free pretzels.

What’s your favorite snack or party mix?
Hands down the best snack mix/puppy chow, chex mix I’ve ever laid my eyes on. You managed to combine EVERYTHING I love into one. Did you make this snack mix just for me Averie!!?? :) Honey roasted peanuts, PRETZELS, PB, Nutella, SPRINKLES. The checkered pretzels are my favorite to use for dipping and such because they catch so much dip/coating! Such a simple recipe with mind blowing results. Sweet, salty, amazing. Pinning pinning pinning – I gotta try it!
I know you have a ton of puppy chow-ish blends and I didn’t even go check them, but I was pretty sure I had never seen anything with Nutella and/or just using the pretzels (and no Chex – Chex is $10 a box in Aruba! so I couldn’t afford Chex…lol). But yeah, this is SO YOU! The pb, nutella, pretzels, honey roasted peanuts and sprinkles. I seriously wanted to send you some. We clearly did not need a gallon-sized Ziplock of it, but we managed to eat it all. Not hard to do :) Thanks for pinning!
Those checker pretzels are perfect for getting yummy ingredients stuck!
PB and Nutella is a match made in heaven :). And let’s here it for the sweet and salty combo of this mix! I bet it’s super addicting ;)
BEYOND addicting!
It’s puppy chow made with pretzels, and pb! And nutella! Weee!!!
And sprinkles!!!! (and no Chex – b/c it’s $10 a box in Aruba! lol)
I love snack mixes like this, especially with pretzels! I have a recipe on my site that is for Peanut Butter Pretzel Chocolate Chip Granola Bars which are great to snack on, especially that pretzel salty taste! Nice add in with the Nutella!
Your granola bars sound great! I have a nobake PB granola bar that sounds similar – minus the pretzels. I also have a salted caramel pretzel bar recipe that’s baked. Love the salt and sweet!
Oh my! I love how easy this is and how ridiculously delicious it looks! Yummmm. Definitely want to try this one out soon! Fortunately I am a cardio lover and can bring this to my church small group so hopefully I’ll be ok. ;)
Yes this is the perfect thing to bring to a group like that – people love it, it’s easy, and you won’t eat it all in your house that way :)
That is definitely my kinda treat! Thanks for sharing Averie :)
Averie, I think you just created perhaps one of the best and worst things to happen to me! I’m helpless around any salty/sweet snack and now you’ve gone and added nutella. I’m doomed ;-)
I know you workout, so you’re safe :) This stuff is like…crazy addicting to be around!
Snack mixes like this are so dangerous because they’re easy to make and you can’t stop eating them. This looks like another winning recipe!
It’s everything you just said! But I know you’re a workout queen so you’re safe :)
Sweet and salty, crunchy and chewy, peanut butter and Nutella. These things just go together. That’s a fact.
Fact. INDEED! :)
These are just fun! And I love how simple they are to put together. Talk about perfect for parties (kids or adults)
A great anytime snack is right! How about now? :) Any way you can ship a batch to Boston real quick? ;)
Wish I could have! We clearly didn’t need it all but we ate it all :)
Uh, wow! Sprinkles too?? Amazing and I know who is going to freak of this, Sally! Lol! You two are the snack mix queens! I really need to join in on the fun and get mixing! This sounds incredible and the peanut butter and nutella combo is just down right awesome!
She did just comment and freaked :) I made this b/c it’s easy, cheap, fast, and my hubs liked it. Well, we all liked it. A little too much :)
I have been looking to re create this kind of sweet and salty snack mix ever since my sister got me this chocolate nut pretzel bark for new york! You recipe is so simple and Pb? yum!
I have my own pop corn machine and what I like to do is place it on a tray with m&ms, sweet wheat biscuits and marshmallows then dizzle over chocolate mixed with cookie butter. It is like messy s’mores!
Wow that creation sounds so good! I make popcorn almost every night as a snack! Yours would be heaven!
And I saw a couple of your recent recipes on FG and doing amazing :) As they should be!
Gosh–if this doesn’t scream “Girls night SNACK” I don’t know what does. I love the combination of nutella and pretzels and find myself going into my pantry dipping into the nutella jar with pretzels. This snack mix is the bomb!
Total girls night in snack! But my hubs loves to go to town on the salty and sweet too :) He’s got more of a salty/sweet tooth than me even. lol
One of my favorite savory/salty snacks has to be pretzels–nuggets or the waffle squares. Sweet, salty, chocolate-y, nutty buttery pretzels would be impossible to resist. Addicting?!? Definitely so, but what a great use for nutella!! I also like your microwave popcorn with coconut oil spray, nooch and cinnamon. I know that one is from the archives, but it’s become a “classic ” for me!
microwave popcorn with coconut oil spray, nooch and cinnamon = I eat that almost every single night while I’m watching my 20 mins or so of recorded mindless tv :) Sometimes I add a sprinkle of cocoa powder instead of cinnamon, or play around with the seasonings but it’s a staple!
