Hi Friends! Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boooo!! Did I scare you?
I hope you’re having a great holiday. I use that word pretty loosely, but it is a holiday after all. We went on a walk this morning and later tonight we are going to take Skylar trick or treating in the neighborhood.
One of the local malls has stores that will be passing out candy tonight as well so if there are no houses passing candy out in our neighborhood, the mall is our backup plan. Honestly though, I don’t want to schlep to the mall, deal with parking, and deal with everyone elses’ sugared up kids! I would rather just deal with my own in our own neighborhood. I read about this candy recall, too.
I grew up in the midwest in rural Minnesota where nearly everyone passed out candy to kids. Urban areas are not such a “sure thing”. We learned this the hard way a few years back living in urban San Diego. We went from dark house to dark house.
It seemed to us, and just guessing, but either the people are young, single, and fabulous and not at home passing out candy, or they are elderly or empty nesters and don’t want to be bothered with little kids ringing their bell, or for whatever the reason, they just are not into Halloween. But in years past, we experienced lots and lots of dark houses so hopefully we have good luck in our neighborhood tonight!
Since it’s the day that pumpkins are really in the spotlight, here are a few pumpkin recipes:
(And for those of you who told me you’re getting sick of pumpkin recipes, I hear ya!)
Savory Pumpkin, Potato, & Carrot Soup
Pumpkin Honey Tofu
If you don’t use honey, feel free to use agave or maple syrup.
If you freeze, then thaw, then press your tofu before baking, it will turn out almost like bread.
And here was our Trip to the Pumpkin Patch. It truly was the kind of day that is what parenthood is all about!
From yesterday’s post about Technology Overload, most of you do feel bombarded from all angles between all the ways of staying connected in this day and age. Glad to hear that I’m not the only one who doesn’t fully get Twitter. Either the nuances of how to use it, or even why we “need” it in our lives! I think I need a tutorial from Evan since he gets it and has cool followers! Thanks for sharing your thoughts about staying sane with all the technology, all the time.
Dessert: No Bake Vegan Pumpkin Spice Donut Holes
Put all those cans of pumpkin you just bought to use!

Questions
1. Best thing you’ve ate or done so far this weekend?
For me, I got some household organization projects done, cleaned my kitchen floors and vacuumed, and it feels really good to have things extra clean, neat, and orderly! But the best part of the weekend is yet to come: seeing Skylar in her Princess costume!
2. Did you go out last night? Or going out tonight? Stories please!
I work weekends and so Monday and Tuesday are my days off, so unfortunately, Scott and I never made it out. Oh well.
3. Will you be passing out candy if you’re home? Could you for any reason not pass candy out or pass something out if you were home? Like sit inside and pretend not to be home?
Growing up, yes, there were a few houses like this but here it seems like this is more common. To just ignore the doorbell! I could never.
Although we will both be out with Skylar, I am still putting candy out. I am going to try the Honor System Candy Basket and hope for the best!
Have a wonderful Happy Halloween and hopefully I’ll capture great pictures that I’ll have time to post tomorrow!
