Pumpkins Picked & The Week

PinSave

I hope your weekend is off to a nice start.  Mine is and this past week sure has been a busy one.   Scott was traveling so I was flying solo for much of the week but he’s home now.  Skylar and Daddy get to have a little Park Time together while Mommy takes a little Break Time.

I was also busy in the kitchen.  These are some of my favorite recipes from this past week:

Blueberry Banana Recovery Smoothie

Peanut Butter Oatmeal White Chocolate Cookies

Peanut Butter Oatmeal White Chocolate Cookies stacked

Candy Corn Cookie Dough Pretzel Bites

Candy Corn Cookie Dough Pretzel Bites with pretzel bottom layer and cookie dough middle

Caramel Pumpkin Whip Dip

Caramel Pumpkin Whip Dip with crackers dipped in

And outside of the kitchen, earlier in the week Skylar and I went pumpkin shopping pumpkin picking!

We came home with a winner

And a mini winner

Small pumpkin on coaster

And now it’s time to go slurp on this winner

Questions:

1. What did you make or eat this week that you enjoyed?

I have been enjoying spending more time in the kitchen the past week or so and creating more.  It’s fun and rewarding for me.

And Scott and Skylar never complain when I create.  They eat the fruits of my labor.  Or the Snickers Bar Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies of my labor.

2. Have you gotten a pumpkin yet?   If not, are you going to?   Are you going to carve your pumpkin?

I probably won’t carve our pumpkin.  We don’t have an outdoor private area where it would be suitable to keep a carved pumpkin and the scent of decomposing pumpkin isn’t something I’m too thrilled about wafting through the kitchen and living room for the days leading up to Halloween.  So we will probably just decorate with some magic markers and skip the carve-athon.

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I haven’t gotten a pumpkin yet, but the hubby wants to buy like 8 of them … he has a carving party planned with our nephew.

  2. I’m making the sweet and sour stir-fry from Mama Pea’s cookbook today for lunch. Excited to try it!

I haven’t ever bought a pumpkin. Maybe someday when I have kids it might be fun, but I don’t see the point just for my husband and I.

  3. Long time reader (I’ve been reading your blog for over 2 years!) and now my first time commenting :-)

A friend of mine managed to track down some canned pumpkin for me so I can make pumpkin pie. I live in the land where pureed pumpkin is sold in small jars for babies, not in cans for pies and smoothies :-P

    1. Thanks for saying hi and for reading all these years!

Enjoy your pumpkin pie with the canned pumpkin.

One secret that’s not well known even here is that most cans of “pumpkin puree” sold in the US are actually canned squash. If you read the ingredient list on most, they will say that but no one pays attention to it. So you could use pureed squash or even sweet potatoes if you’re ever in a bind.

  4. I would love to get my hands on that pumpkin for carving and seed roasting! I think next weekend that’s the boyfriend and my project. Along with Boston VegFest!

  5. We haven’t gotten a pumpkin yet! I really wanted to go this weekend but I picked up a nasty head cold from traveling so my butt has been glued to the couch instead :(. I did make apple pancakes this morning that were delicious though :) I love week’s where I can spend more time in the kitchen. It’s definitely my “happy place.” I don’t even like candy corn but every time I see a picture of those bites you made this week, I start craving it! They are so cute.

  6. Beautiful pumpkins!

I’ve been loving my bean stews, but as per usual, my smoothies are usually my favorite–oh, and carrots just eaten plain, or the carrot cookies I made earlier this week are definitely becoming a favorite…

  7. The only pumpkin I’ve gotten has been from a can. And I have to say that recovery drink has me salivating right about now since I did a super long run. I want anything cold, refreshing, juicy (ate a ton of pineapple at a baby shower LOL)

  8. I fell in love with risotto this week…much easier than I thought!

and while I love pumpkins, living in a college town means any visible pumpkin usually gets destroyed

  9. All of this pumpkin food looks DELICIOUS. I just love pumpkin everything!!

Let’s see, this weekend I’ve been munching on apples like it’s my job, ha!

  10. I love pumpkins, but no I haven’t gotten one yet. I bet she’d love to “carve” a pumpkin, even if it’s just with markers. ;)

  11. The pumpkin pictures are SO pretty! Hope you enjoyed your break today! We went and picked pumpkins today. And I made a fun new cookie recipe (will be up tomorrow!)

  12. Your recipes always look soso good :) I looooveee carving pumpkins. I’m not doing one this year though because I’m moving. No time!

  13. We just went pumpkin picking this morning! Glad you’re getting some rest in after a week of flying solo!

  14. My favorite food from this week was a soup recipe I made with beans, chicken and rice. For some reason it was the most delicious soup I made recently!

And yup, got a nice one last weekend and I won’t carve it but I think I will try roasting it and roasting the seeds :D

    Have a good weekend!
