…but I got into the fall spirit for today’s recipe and am presenting you with

Averie’s Raw Vegan Pumpkin Spice Donut Holes – 5 minute Recipe
1/2 c Flax Seeds.  Grind well, then add the rest of the ingredients.
2 Tbsp Pumpkin Puree (I used TJ’s Organic canned)
2 Tbsp Maple Syrup (or Agave to preserve true raw status)
1 Tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice (or a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, clove…your basic fall seasonings)
1 Tbsp Coconut Oil (Note: You may have to go a little over or a little under this amount.  Your batter may appear a little crumbly in the Vita or Food Proc so be careful not to overdo it with the oil or you will suffer a bad case of Sloppy Balls.  TWSS)

Recipe Yields 14 Balls

Here’s the Photo-Op Step-by-Step
1/2 c Flax Seeds

Flaxseed in blender

Grind them in the DonutHoleMaker or food processor

Ground up flaxseeds

Add the Pumpkin, Maple, Pumpkin Pie Spice, Coconut Oil

Pumpkin, Maple, Pumpkin Pie Spice and Coconut Oil added to ground flaxseeds

Blend Again.  This is what I was talking about the dough appearing a little crumbly, but this is A-Okay.  You don’t want Sloppy Balls or worse, Greasy Ball Syndrome.

Blended up ingredients

Take out and Form into Cute Balls

If that’s not enough for you, here’s some
Optional Tweaks:
Double the recipe to share with others.   I like to make dessert recipes that don’t make a ridiculous quantity so you’re not tempted to eat the whole thing in a sitting!  But also, smaller batches are nice because that way you get to try it, but then move onto something new & different.  I need variety in my dessert life, I tell ya!

Roll in Powdered Sugar
Dip in Maple Syrup
For the coconut fiends, roll in coconut flakes
Roll or dust with cocoa or carob powder for chocolaty pumpkin donut holes
**Or, don’t make balls at all.  Make 4 Raw Vegan Pumpkin Spice Pancakes and drizzle with maple syrup, agave, or garnish with fresh fruit.  Yummy fall breakfast!

Or, maybe you don’t wanna donut hole.  So just reminding you that the Raw Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls are mighty delish, too!

Blueberry and Cran-Raspberry

What’s your on your agenda for the rest of the week?  It seems that everywhere I turn there is another kiddie Halloween party.  Wednesday evening we are going to a Trunk-n-Treat.  Meaning that lots of our neighbors are meeting in a centralized location, decorating their trunks, and are passing out candy.  It’s a cool concept because this way the kids don’t have to roam the neighborhood or encounter any weirdos along the way

….But, all that roaming and walking burns off the candy & sugar high!  I remember as a kid going to so many houses the night of Halloween that I would literally fill my first plastic pumpkin full of candy by 7pm and would head out for Trick or Treating Round 2.   I would then come home and sort my loot.  I would organize my candy by how many Snickers Bars, Crunch Bars, Butterfingers, etc. that I got.  I actually preferred organizing it to eating it.  Call me crazy, huh.  What are your favorite Halloween memories?

And Don’t Forget to Enjoy a Pumpkin Spice Donut Hole though, ok?

  1. Hi! I want to make these but my food processor is not very good. Could I just use already ground flax meal instead of the seeds? If so, do you know how much I would need to use?
