Surprised Me

I woke up Valentine’s Day morning to these.

Pink white and red flower bouquet

Scott clearly doesn’t read my blog because I had mentioned that I’d rather spend money on shoes (or just about anything else) than on flowers. They die so fast and they seem so frivolous.

But after having these beauties in the house, I am not complaining.

Red Rose

And I can’t complain about my day, either.

It started off in the kitchen with a stick and a half of melted butter because I made a batch of these.

Ralph’s store-brand butter is on the left and Kerrygold on the right. It’s interesting to note how yellow the Kerrygold is and how pale the Ralph’s brand is in a side by side comparison. Maybe that has to do with grass-fed cows or that Kerrygold says their butter has a higher butterfat percentage.

I need to do a side-by-side comparison with flour and compare store-brand flour and King Arthur flour.

A batch of White Chocolate Snickerdoodle Cookies would be a good starting place I think for a side-by-side bake-by-side.

In addition to melted butter on Valentine’s Day, there was melted chocolate.

I love how smoothly, easily, and effortlessly this chocolate melts.

It’s easier to make Vanilla Cake Batter Truffles (No-Bake) when the chocolate melts smoothly.  Dipping the little balls into their bathtub is much easier when the consistency of the bathwater is just right.

I also made Scott something special for dinner to surprise him.  It wasn’t fancy, but it was special, for him.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and he loves eggs.  I made something similar to the Spinach and Red Pepper Frittata but even more up his alley because it involved potatoes.

  1. We had Chinese food and rented a few cheap movies. We watched a hilariously bad movie called Dinoshark. I think my favourite of the night was Gnomeo and Juliet, though. :)

  2. I “celebrated” by eating heart shaped Peeps alongside a Reese’s Easter Egg. Something is very odd about the combo, but it was delicious :)

  3. Those cake batter truffles look way too good! I won’t spend my money on flowers, either, but I sure don’t mind when other people get them for me! My husband got me beets for valentines day. He must really think I’m weird :)

  4. How sweet! I happen to LOVE flowers. I’ll take them anytime. It’s funny, my husband doesn’t read my blog much either! Maybe next holiday you can get those shoes! :) Have a great Wednesday!

    1. I put things on my blog and he’s like what is THAT?! And I’m like…ummm that dessert I fed you 4 nights ago. And he’ll be like, oh, that was a good one. I liked it. lol

  5. Looks like you had quite the beautiful day Averie!

    Good for you!!!

and your egg dish for Scott looks PERFECT right about now!

Glad you had such a sweet day.
mine was business as usual but I had a lot of fun helping JJ get ready for his school party and we baked cupcakes Monday night.
    xo

  6. my hubby did good. he got me my loves for V-Day: my bumble & bumble stuff and chocolates. LOL I agree with you on the flowers too.

    1. I love Bumble + Bumble stuff. Smells soooo good. That and Aveda. Ok, I could live in Sephora or a beauty supply store and die happy :)

  7. Yay! Scott’s surprise was lovely. I was surprised by roses at the office too! Other than that the day was a rather rough one.

Glad to see you using the Kerrygold. Yes, grass fed butter is dark yellow, and pastured eggs have almost orange yolks. Eat up all that great vitamin K2! :) there is an organic valley butter I love the flavor of even more that KG, its pasture butter and cultured and yep, dark yellow, it’s wrapped in green foil.

    Missing your cute little fam!

    1. Long time, no talk…and it’s awesome to hear from you!

Thanks for the info about why the yolks are darker and the butter, too. You are full of great info and I remember you being a fan of your grass-fed dairy from ages ago. I know the green foil butter you’re talking about..I’ll check it out if I wanna splurge$ on butter…rather than shoes :)

Hope you and the little man are doing great!
      xoxoxo

  8. what a lovely surprise to receive flowers :) my husband and I just made dinner together. He got me flowers and we exchanged cards…and candy. I got him Reese’s Pieces and he got me Reese’s PB cups. We were laughing at that one!

  9. I know that flowers die quickly, but I LOVE having them around!! And my husband knows that and did very well yesterday. :)
We had a nice dinner out (we NEVER go out on weeknights) and went to bed early. A good day!
I also had a package from iHerb arrive yesterday (I gave you a shout on my last post), which might have been more exciting that the awesome dinner that followed. :)

    1. I am so glad you had a nice day with your hubs and glad the iherb action makes you happy :) Makes me happy when I get my orders, too!

  10. Averie,
those flowers are beautiful. I feel the same as you and would rather my hubby spend money on something I can really use or something we can do together. Although it is a treat when they do bring them home, and so pretty, too!

  11. aw they are gorgeous averie! And I think flowers to you = an egg dinner for a guy haha. Easily impressed!

    1. You know it girl…sometimes it’s the easy things, like their favorite drink or eggs for dinner that’s as big of a deal to them as roses are to a lady :)

  12. Such pretty flowers! I had a few of my girlfriends over for a single ladies’ dinner party. We had a really fun time.
