They’re Back

When I was at Trader Joe’s the other day, I picked up one of my favorite things

mango chunks

I can’t believe it’s been a few months since I’ve had these orange gems in my life.  I just kind of forgot to replenish my stash and buy some.  Bad move on my part.  Glad I’ve rectified that problem.

I could take down half the bag at a sitting if I didn’t care about possibly turning myself orange

I love the texture of frozen fruit and I think it actually gets sweeter upon thawing.  Could be my imagination though.

I prefer my grapes frozen

And I like bananas best when frozen

And mango is no exception: frozen please

You can pair bananas + mangoes for

And apples are also back

Raw Vegan GF Apple Crumble is really good

And it’s easy and no-bake and I prefer it to baked crumbles and crisps

But mango anything will always steal the show for me:

Jar of Mango Butter

Four Jars of Mango Ginger Chutney

Make Mango Ginger Maple Tofu with the chutney (or use apricot preserves or peach jam or similar if you don’t have mango chutney)

Stacked Mango Ginger Maple Tofu

And make No Bake White Chocolate & Mango Cookie Dough Bites with dried mango

Told you I love mango and I’m glad it’s back!

“Sooo excited to try the caramel cheesecake!”

Enjoy your sweet treats ladies!

From my last post, Disses & Kisses, thanks for the support about my recipes being swiped and re-posted on other blogs.

What’s happening is somehow the spam content farms are getting a hold of my content and then just farming it out and posting it on their own sites but as Evan pointed out, it’s likely not even a human doing it.  Grrr.  Spam and spammers are the worst!

Good thing there were some Kisses of the Week, too.

Questions:

1. Any foods you’ve forgotten about lately and are glad to have back in your life or need to reincorporate back into your life, asap?

I’ll be honest, I do love Vegenaise but recently I was out, didn’t want to make a special trip to Whole Foods just for it, and picked up a jar of Miracle Whip at the grocery store.  And yes, I loved it growing up, and love it still.

And also, Golden Grahams.  Childhood staple for me that I haven’t had in about a decade!

Pile of Golden GrahamsYes, there is a recipe coming using them

2. Do you like mangoes?

Clearly, I do.  Big time.

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. Something I was craving were peaches and nectarines, so I picked up a basket of nectarines from the Farmer’s Market yesterday, and was so glad I did!

I do love mangoes too and actually haven’t had them in a while…hmmm, I guess we know what I should be getting next!!!! Love apples too…I wish they had Trader Joe’s in Canada..boo!

  2. you know when certain bloggers remind you of different products, or the other way around haha like certain products remind you of different bloggers, well i feel that way about you and tjs frozen mango chunks, and the mango chutney TOTALLY remind me of you haha like i think of you every time i’m at tjs well that and the sumatra blend that you drink too! <3 you lady!

    1. every time i see peanut flour anything, i think of you, instantly :)

and also coffee, too!! all the TJs seasonal flavors, think of you RIGHT away!

  3. Aw, I’m sorry about the spam, Averie. It must be frustrating seeing the content that you work hard to create on other random robot sites :/ At least you were made aware of it!

I just made a Mexican mango avocado salsa last night and it was probably the first time I cooked with mangoes in, lets be real, EVER. Needless to say, its definitely a fruit that I need to make more of an effort to incorporate into my meals

  4. I love everything mango flavored as well!! I am currently obsesseddd with Paul Newman Mango Salsa!

  5. pitting cherries is one of the most dreaded tasks ever! that sucks they arent carrying them anymore. lmk when/if you see them back.

  6. One food I haven’t forgotten but TJs stopped carrying several months back; frozen pitted cherries. I think there’s a shortage in the supply, because I haven’t been able to find them anywhere.

      1. Really?! I shop at Costco; must look for them! Last time I looked all they had were strawberries and a berry blend.

  7. SADDest of all sad things, I LOVE mango and used to buy those TJ’s frozen mango chunks ALLLL the time, but I developed an oral allergy to the fruit (lips get all puffy), so I can’t eat it anymore. CRUEL! it is truly quite the tragedy. My heart (and taste buds) ache just reading this post. I want my mango back! lol
There are so many other fruits I love just as dearly, but you know how when you can’t have something you want it even more? Yea. On a more positive note, new food (fruit) find at Whole Foods this week was honeydew nectarines. To die for. omg.

    1. oral allergy syndrome, OAS
very serious. and people who are allergic to the latex family, i.e. bananas, kiwi, mangoes, melons…usually get it BAD.

OAS is VERY commonly found with the latex family vs. say, the brassica family… So Im not surprised by this.

YEARS of hanging out in food allergy forums taught me so much :)

      1. yep, I’m a nurse practitioner so I’m well aware of OAS & cross-sensitivities. Funny though because I eat kiwis like it’s my job, and have no problem w/ bananas, melons, or latex. It’s JUST mango. I mean I suppose I could develop other allergies later in life, but the mango thing has been going on for a while now without any other allergies. Weird, but I’ll take it. I REFUSE to stop eating any more of my fave fruits. Taking one away is enough! lol

      2. Oh I had no idea about your background…very good you do know about it all! Most people are always surprised to learn of the cross-sensitivities.

I’ll be emailing you now with all my medical stuff b/c now i know youre an NP. (kidding!)

  8. I like some fruits frozen – I like blueberries frozen best. Grapes are too big and leave me with a too cold mouth!

And since you got apples, I have to comment that honeycrisps are almost back in season!!!

  9. Frozen fruit is the BEST in the summer! I love having granola, almond milk, and frozen grapes as a snack. :)

I used to LOVE miracle whip when I was growing up. My favorite sandwich ever was just one piece of bread with miracle whip, folded in half haha. It’s been forever since I’ve had it though!

You know I love mangoes. ;)

  10. Coffee! I tried to give it up, thinking it would be better for my health…screw that! I added it back in and now I’m in love again….I bought a keurig, and now I have a full blown addiction.

    Mangos are awesome. Period.

  11. I LOVE mangos too- Dried, fresh or frozen. The frozen ones are almost like eating mini Popsicles but better.
I’m excited about having fresh figs back in my life now that they are in season.

  12. I have never has mangos but I do love my fruit frozen like you do. Grapes and bananas frozen are a must! I like to put frozen grapes in water like ice cubes :)

  13. thats so weird about the spam. Can you report it somehow? weird! By the way, we share the same obsession with mango. Ahh, so good!

    1. I’d have to contact their ISP and deal with tons of stuff i just dont have time for!
