They’re Back

When I was at Trader Joe’s the other day, I picked up one of my favorite things

mango chunks

I can’t believe it’s been a few months since I’ve had these orange gems in my life.  I just kind of forgot to replenish my stash and buy some.  Bad move on my part.  Glad I’ve rectified that problem.

I could take down half the bag at a sitting if I didn’t care about possibly turning myself orange

I love the texture of frozen fruit and I think it actually gets sweeter upon thawing.  Could be my imagination though.

I prefer my grapes frozen

And I like bananas best when frozen

And mango is no exception: frozen please

You can pair bananas + mangoes for

And apples are also back

Raw Vegan GF Apple Crumble is really good

And it’s easy and no-bake and I prefer it to baked crumbles and crisps

But mango anything will always steal the show for me:

Jar of Mango Butter

Four Jars of Mango Ginger Chutney

Make Mango Ginger Maple Tofu with the chutney (or use apricot preserves or peach jam or similar if you don’t have mango chutney)

Stacked Mango Ginger Maple Tofu

And make No Bake White Chocolate & Mango Cookie Dough Bites with dried mango

Told you I love mango and I’m glad it’s back!

“Sooo excited to try the caramel cheesecake!”

Enjoy your sweet treats ladies!

From my last post, Disses & Kisses, thanks for the support about my recipes being swiped and re-posted on other blogs.

What’s happening is somehow the spam content farms are getting a hold of my content and then just farming it out and posting it on their own sites but as Evan pointed out, it’s likely not even a human doing it.  Grrr.  Spam and spammers are the worst!

Good thing there were some Kisses of the Week, too.

Questions:

1. Any foods you’ve forgotten about lately and are glad to have back in your life or need to reincorporate back into your life, asap?

I’ll be honest, I do love Vegenaise but recently I was out, didn’t want to make a special trip to Whole Foods just for it, and picked up a jar of Miracle Whip at the grocery store.  And yes, I loved it growing up, and love it still.

And also, Golden Grahams.  Childhood staple for me that I haven’t had in about a decade!

Pile of Golden GrahamsYes, there is a recipe coming using them

2. Do you like mangoes?

Clearly, I do.  Big time.

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I <3 mangoes so, so much … I just used it today in Amanda@Running With Spoon's mango vanilla tofu protein smoothie and it was delicious! It seems to be difficult to find good quality mangoes where I live and it's a bit hit and miss, but I like to see that as making the good ones taste even sweeter! :D

I'm so sorry about your content being stolen; I've followed nail art blogs for a few years, and they suffer from it very badly … I don't know if it's worse if it's a spam thing or a person stealing your stuff, grrr :(

  2. i am not a mango fan at all (except if there was a nail polish shade that colour) but happy for YOU that you have them back in your casa!
i am all out of puffins (love that you mention golden grahams today and can’t wait to see what recipe you make with them!) and it’s on my to do list today to get more. no puffins is no fun!
have a great sunday aft, averie!

  3. You admitted to loving MW ?!?! ;P I knew I wasn’t the only one who liked it.

WOO HOO! I never win giveaways and I won some Izze from Janetha AND these sweet treats from you :D The giveaway gods are smiling on me methinks. :)

  4. I love frozen fruit! I pop it straight outta the freezer and directly into my mouth. Mango is good, but it’s not at the top of my favorite fruit list. I think all those years working at Starbucks around the banana mango Vivanno ruined it a bit for me. :(

Can’t wait for the Golden Graham recipe!

  5. Yes, frozen mango is the best! The texture is so smooth and buttery (okay, that sounds weird)–plus, you don’t have to peel anything ;)
I recently, in a way, rediscovered whole grains and lentils. I hadn’t forgotten them per se, but I was always too lazy to spend 40 minutes cooking them. Then I realized my Vita-Mix could turn them into a flour (and grind them with spices at the same time), with which I could easily make whole grain porridges or smooth lentil curries, in under 30 minutes start-to-finish :D

  6. oh man I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Mangoes!!!! we eat them unripe (still green) back in the philippines! so good! with a little bit of salt! yumm!! makes my mouth water everytime i think of it!

  7. I love eating frozen mango, but I love frozen cherries the best. The texture is so good and they are soooo sweet!

I can’t wait to see the Golden Grahams recipe. I love that cereal!

  8. I have only had a fresh mango once and I wasn’t that impressed. I used to LOVE orange mango juice when I was a kid and I was really hoping that mango would be another awesome tasting fruit, but it was very “meh” to me.

I have been in a kind of food rut for awhile, but one thing that I recently added back was adding avocado to my smoothies. I had forgotten just how awesome and creamy it makes them. Almost as thick as pudding! Yum.

      1. I think I’ll have to with the way you described eating it frozen. Sounds so good! Maybe that’s what I’ll have to do is buy it frozen. So many things are better when they are super cold :)

  9. you are such a tease. can´t wait to see the final recipe!!
I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove mangoes! One of my favorite fruits.
I reincooperated peppermint oil into my diet. It´s so good in oatmeal, smoothies, pancakes…

  10. Loooove mangoes. I order the baked dried ones from iHerb all the time!
And so excited about my sweet treats! Thanks Averie :)

    1. baked dried ones from iherb? I dont even know about those. I just get the dried unsulphured ones from TJ’s next to the raisins section.

  11. I love mangoes! My job this past summer required me to chop/dice around 20-30 mangoes a day (froyo cafe), and I used to keep the last little bits off the pit for later snacking :-) Now I really want something mango! Being stuck inside for 48 hours does not lend itself well to food cravings.

  12. Mmmm I recently discovered mangoes, and my favorite banana soft serve right now is mango!!! I’m excited for pumpkin season though!

  13. I like the flavor of mangoes (like that mango butter) but not the texture of the fruit itself. Jason, however, loves mangoes.

  14. Mango banana soft-serve is my current obsession. Try it with pureed raspberries (I just thaw frozen rasps and mash them with a fork) as a sundae sauce…amazing. And the colours are gorgeous!
