I love watermelon but sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach.
I recently bought a huge watermelon, but I didn’t realize exactly how huge until I was cleaning it.
It just kept going, and going, and going. It was multiplying on the cutting board, I swear.
But I wasn’t worried about what to do with it all because I can eat my weight in it, and I knew I’d freeze extra for slushies.
As a nice bonus, if you’re using frozen fruit in smoothies and slushies you don’t need to add ice which just waters them down.
The slushies can be made with our without alcohol, but it’s a holiday so I say go for it. Even if it’s not a holiday, I say go for it.
The lemon adds a bright tartness to the sweet watermelon and the slushies are incredibly refreshing. They go down fast, easy, and you’ll want a refill before you know it.
Sadly, I know this was probably the last watermelon of the season.
But it just made the slushies taste extra special.

O.M.G.!!!!!
I just made this for this hot day here in Houston, and I must say. THIS IS THE BUSINESS!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! And stay cool! San Diego has been having a heat wave too. Nothing like yours I’m sure, but 90ish and no a/c in most places!
This slushy sounds amazing! I can’t wait to try!
Haha I am familiar with the NEVER-ENDING WATERMELON phenomenon – I convinced my fiance that we NEEDED to buy the whole watermelon because it’s on sale… we were so sick of watermelon by the end of the week. I had no idea you can freeze watermelon and use it for delicious slushy drinks even when it’s not in season, what a great idea!
Almost anything can be frozen. From bread you’re not going to go through, to watermelon, to cookie dough. My freezer contains it all! The NEVER-ENDING WATERMELON phenomenon, yeah, I was there when I bought this one. Nuts, it just kept going…..
I really love these slushies! I can just imagine how refreshing they are. Especially on a hot day, maybe at a football tailgate. Yum! I’m definitely going to have to make these before watermelon season is officially over!
Last watermelon of the season?!?! NOOOOOO!!!!
I still have room in my freezer. I’m buying a watermelon TODAY and freezing it in chunks. That is, if I can carry it for miles in my backpack. :D
This slushie would be great to freeze and drink in the winter. Because, you know, I always crave slushies in the freezing cold.
I can drink hot hot hot coffee in the dead of summer and drink freezing iced coffee in the winter – I swear I must like to suffer, i.e. sweat or shiver!
I was in Aruba and the watermelon seemed ‘normal’ size to me. A little on the big side but not crazy big, but it was already super ripe when I cut into it and so freezing half of it was a must!
I love these – such a gorgeous colour !! I can never seem to get enough watermelon in my life :) Can’t wait to try! Pinned!
Thanks for the pin!
Just bumped into your blog! Love it! And great way to use all the extra watermelon!
Thanks for finding me, Ambar!
We are so bad at getting through those watermelons…we start off really eager, then kind of get burned out mid-way through. This is a great way to use up what’s left! Looks delicious, Averie :)
Such a creative idea! I love it!
If I had any watermelon left, I would make your salad you posted today – I’ve been thinking about it all day!!!
This looks so good! I’m on vacay now so I’m totally in the “alcoholic frozen” drink kind of mood. So this hit the spot – must grab the ingredients to make soon!
